AC Repair // Schaghticoke

Sealed system, so find the leak.

A car A/C system is sealed, so weak cooling usually means a leak.

At Upstate Auto & Mobile Truck Repair, the system gets tested first: pressures, compressor, condenser and lines.

You hear where the leak is or what has failed before anything gets replaced.

The A/C is not only a summer system.

On many vehicles the defrost setting runs the compressor to dry the air, which helps clear a fogged windshield.

Cars and light trucks come into the bay on Pleasant Ave in Schaghticoke.

How it goes

Step by step, no surprises.

The same order on every job: look, explain, fix, then prove it on the road.

  1. Step 01

    Test the system

Gauges show the pressures on both sides of the system.

That tells the crew whether the problem is a leak, a blockage or the compressor.

  2. Step 02

    Find the leak

Lines, the condenser, the compressor seals and the fittings all get checked. A leak that is not found will come back.

  3. Step 03

    Plan before parts

You hear what failed, what it takes to fix and what can wait. Nothing gets replaced until you say go.

  4. Step 04

    Repair, recharge, verify

Failed parts get replaced and the system is filled to the right amount.

Then the vents are checked for cold, steady air.

Upstate roads // local wear

Cold air in July, clear glass in January.

The A/C works in every season here, not only in July.

A humid July in stop and go traffic is the hardest test of the cooling.

In the cold months, a weak system shows up as glass that is slow to clear, because defrost leans on the A/C.

Road salt and stone chips also hit the condenser, which sits right up front behind the grille.

A/C work happens in the bay, where the system can be tested and the vehicle is up on the lift.

If a fleet truck has lost its cooling, call (518) 441-6283 and describe it.

You will hear on the call whether it needs the bay or can be looked at where it sits.

Questions

Questions about A/C repair.

Can you just add refrigerant?

Adding refrigerant without finding the leak only delays the problem.

The system is sealed, so low cooling usually means it leaked out somewhere. The test shows where, before more goes in.

Why does my windshield fog when the A/C is off?

On many vehicles, defrost runs the A/C compressor to dry the air.

If the compressor is not working, the glass clears slower.

A weak A/C system can show up first as foggy windows in the cold.

Does the A/C need service if it still blows cold?

Not always. If it cools well and nothing smells or rattles, there is nothing to chase.

If the cooling has been fading, a test now beats finding out on the hottest day.
